Our Mission
Los Ranchos Economic Development works to promote our village's unique character and heritage, strengthen partnerships, and foster small-business growth — preserving our cultural character through economic development and inclusive community engagement.

The Program
New Mexico MainStreet, a program of the New Mexico Economic Development Department, supports communities in revitalizing downtowns and adjacent neighborhoods. As a "Main Street America Coordinating Program," NMMS provides training, resources, and technical assistance that foster asset-based economic growth and preserve local heritage. Founded in 1984, it serves 32 MainStreet districts and 13 Arts & Cultural Districts across the state.
The Path
In 2023, NMMS introduced a new pathway for communities seeking MainStreet designation. Los Ranchos begins through the Rural Communities Initiative.
Project One: build local capacity and identify priorities for revitalization.
A second initiative and a Revitalization Action Plan to guide the work ahead.
A 12–18 month process preparing the Village for Main Street America Affiliate status.
Become a MainStreet America Affiliate, then maintain accreditation and grow.
Getting Started
Applying for a Rural Communities Initiative project requires a non-profit entity that will eventually become the MainStreet organization. The entity follows six steps:
Form a steering committee or task force to lead the effort.
Choose a focused project with clear economic outcomes.
Obtain local commitments and acquire the funding needed.
Apply to EDD / NM MainStreet — accepted on a rolling basis.
Engage technical assistance and refine the project.
Create implementation teams and bring the project to life.
